Visita Iglesia 2008

It has been seven years since my last Visita Iglesia. I wanted to go to one this year but due to time constraints and other factors, Jabe and I managed to visit only one church—Barasoain in Malolos, Bulacan.

We visited the historical Barasoain Church on a Good Friday. I was hoping to see it in broad daylight but it was night time already when we arrived. We chanced upon a procession of the Stations of the Cross that came to an end in front of the church. The procession was flocked by a lot of Bulakeños and foreigners like us. Their version was a bit different as it makes use of life-size statues depicting scenes from the Stations of the Cross that were hauled with the use of motors for ease of transport.

The Last Supper

The Betrayal of Judas Iscariot

The scourging of Jesus at the Pilar

Other saints were also part of the procession like St. Thomas, the disciple

Upholding tradition—Bulakeños gather in front of Barasoain Church

Since my Visita Iglesia is just half-baked this year, I'll be making sure to practice it in the coming years. It’s a great way of upholding tradition and strengthening our faith.
